What Pete the Plumber does with your information, in plain English.

The short version
Pete is a plumber, not a marketing company. He collects what he needs to come and fix your plumbing and to invoice you for it, and nothing else. He does not sell, rent or share your details with anyone for marketing, and he never will.
This website has no analytics, no advertising tags, no tracking pixels and no contact form. It does not load anything from anyone else's server.
Who is responsible for your information
Pete the Plumber is the trading name of Pete Wilson, a sole trader based in Wivenhoe, Essex CO7. There is no company behind the name — Pete is the data controller himself, which means he decides what is collected and what happens to it, and he is the one answerable for it.
The quickest way to reach him about anything on this page is to ring or message 07944 858380. A postal address for correspondence is available on request.
What Pete collects, and when
When you ring, text or WhatsApp him
Your phone number arrives with the call or message. Beyond that, Pete only knows what you tell him — usually your name, your address, and what the problem is. If you send a photo of a leak on WhatsApp, he has that photo.
When he does a job for you
To quote, carry out and invoice the work he keeps a record of the job: your name, the address, contact number, what was done, what parts went in, and what it cost.
When you visit this website
The web server keeps a standard access log. Every website does. It records the IP address of the visitor, the page requested, the time, and which browser was used. It is used for keeping the site running and secure, nothing else, and it is deleted automatically after fourteen days.
The site sets no cookies for tracking or advertising. The one thing it can store in your browser is a note saying you have seen the cookie message, and only after you press Accept. Nothing about it identifies you and it never leaves your device.
Why he is allowed to hold it
- To do the work you asked for. Quoting a job, turning up and invoicing it needs your name, address and number. In data protection terms this is a contract.
- Because the law requires it. Invoices and job records have to be kept for tax purposes.
- Because it is reasonable and expected. Server logs, keeping the site secure, and keeping a note of a job in case you ring back about it later. In data protection terms this is legitimate interests.
Pete does not run a mailing list and does not send marketing texts or emails.
Who else sees it
As few people as possible:
- Cloudflare sits in front of this website to keep it fast and to block attacks, so it handles visitors' IP addresses on Pete's behalf.
- The company that hosts and maintains this website can see the server logs while looking after it.
- WhatsApp, if you choose to message on it. Those messages travel through WhatsApp's own service and are covered by their privacy policy, not this one. Your phone network handles calls and texts the same way.
- An accountant and HMRC, for invoices, as any business must.
- A merchant or bank, when you pay.
Nobody else. Your details are not sold, rented, or passed to other trades, lead-generation companies or advertisers.
How long it is kept
- Website access logs: fourteen days, then deleted automatically.
- Invoices and job records: six years, because tax records have to be kept that long.
- Messages, quotes and photos: until they are no longer needed. If a quote comes to nothing, it goes.
Your rights
You can ask Pete to:
- tell you what he holds about you, and give you a copy;
- correct anything that is wrong;
- delete it, where he is not required to keep it for tax;
- stop using it in a particular way, or object to a use based on legitimate interests.
Just ring and ask. There is no charge, and he has a month to respond.
Keeping it safe
This website is served over an encrypted connection. Job records and invoices are kept on password-protected devices and accounts, and only Pete uses them.
Children
This is a plumbing business. Its services are not aimed at children and it does not knowingly collect information about them.
If you are not happy
Tell Pete first — most things are a misunderstanding and get sorted out in a phone call. If that does not resolve it, you have the right to complain to the Information Commissioner's Office, the UK regulator for data protection, at ico.org.uk/make-a-complaint or on 0303 123 1113.
Changes to this notice
If how Pete handles your information changes, this page changes with it and the date at the top is updated.
